Fellowship Programs
Research Experience
Research and Training
Research training is focused on the interests of the individual fellow. We offer opportunities for research in epidemiology, clinical trials, translational research, and basic science. Fellows will design their research projects in collaboration with mentors within the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. Multidisciplinary projects are encouraged and include faculty mentors from other departments. Additionally, fellows are welcome to collaborate with each other on research projects. It is expected that the fellow will complete a series of research projects during the 3 years of fellowship. Typically, this includes retrospective studies, meta-analysis and at least one prospective study.
Curriculum
The research curriculum includes both a formal didactic component and practical research experience that will provide a well-rounded experience in study design, study execution, statistical analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.
Our fellows participate in a research lecture series, in collaboration with the other OBGYN subspecialty divisions.
Topics include the following:
- Responsible Conduct of Research/Ethics
- Introduction to Epidemiology
- Introduction to Biostatistics
- Statistical Methods in Epidemiology
- Rates and Proportions
- Regression Analysis
- Observational Studies
- Clinical Trials I & II
- Health Outcomes Research
- Informatics in Research
- Translational Research I & II
- Basic Science Techniques
Faculty Involvement
Fellows have the opportunity to work closely with our epidemiologists, Dr. Jean Paul Tanner and Dr. Jason Salemi. Our faculty conduct several workshops during the research boot camp, participate in our monthly research meetings, and provide education on research concepts as they pertain to active projects within our division.
Fellows meet individually with faculty during protocol development to aid in study design and statistical planning. In completing the project, they perform data analysis and interpretation, as well as assist with manuscript writing and editing.
