Overview

Scientific Discovery & Innovation

Our research interests span both the basic and clinical domains, leveraging the unique strengths of both USF and our Tampa Bay community. Our commitment to advancing knowledge and improving healthcare outcomes extends globally while making a significant impact locally.

In the laboratory, we focus on unraveling the pathogenesis and treatment of both obstetric conditions such as preeclampsia, monochorionic diamniotic twins, fetal therapy, and gynecological conditions such as endometriosis and uterine fibroids. Noteworthy initiatives focus on understanding the mechanistic role of inflammatory infiltrates on determining endometrial cancer progression and response to therapy and genetic factors determining outcomes for ovarian cancer patients undergoing heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy.

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology has played a key role in the establishment and ongoing operations of the shared TGH/USF Health Precision Medicine Biorepository (PMBioR), creating a myriad of opportunities for translational researchers seeking to access specimens. More recently, members of our faculty have engaged National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to better understand the impact of spaceflight on women’s health.

Clinically, we are a distinguished academic research site with a proven track record of successfully conducting over 100 industry-sponsored clinical trials and investigator-initiated clinical trials spanning the breadth of women’s health. Recognized as experts in research and cutting-edge treatments, our site effectively engages our community, known for its rich diversity and a blend of family and retirement communities. Our recruitment area spans over six countries, encompassing a population of over 3.2 million.
