Pediatrics Residency
Didactics
Didactics & Other Educational Opportunities
The program began an Academic Half Day on Thursday mornings in July 2018. It is currently scheduled weekly. There are didactic, interactive and board review conferences and all residents working in Tampa or St Pete attend. There clinical work is covered by faculty during the session. The morning ends with a resident meeting and lunch. Both hospitals have a daily morning report and noon conference lecture series on some days of the week. Topics for AHD and noon conference are specialty-specific for the month and are given in an 18 month cycle. There is a weekly resident case presentation, including a monthly interactive cost-effective case presentation, and a board review curriculum that includes monthly night conferences, monthly noon conferences and an intense 3-month weekly 4-hour lecture series. A structured evidence-based medicine conference occurs weekly at both sites, and Grand Rounds is held weekly at both hospitals.
We use several online educational modules including a primary care curriculum, resident learning center modules, and several board review platforms (Med Study and NEJM). We also use our own program, DRILL, to assist residents in their self-directed learning. In addition, Clinical Challenge e-cases are sent to all residents every other week, encouraging friendly competition while learning. A winner is announced biannually.
