Residency Home

What makes a good residency program?

The People: residents who care about each other, faculty who are passionate about teaching and who support residents’ personal growth, and topnotch administrative staff.

The Places
: facilities that support the learning environment, a variety of clinical settings in which to learn, state-of-the-art simulation facilities.

The Opportunities
: for collaboration, for academic stimulation, for individualized learning plans, for variety, and for fun.

USF Pediatrics and Med-Peds offer all of these qualities and more. For almost 40 years, the Department of Pediatrics has trained residents and produced leaders who serve in our community and throughout the U.S. We have an excellent history of placing residents at a variety of top fellowship programs throughout the country, in addition to training excellent primary care pediatricians. We are known for creating a caring but challenging environment. We are very proud that many of the pediatricians in the Tampa Bay area trained at USF, which has strengthened our medical community. Our enthusiastic team looks forward to sharing with you this exciting program, and encourages you to consider USF as you search for your next learning environment. Tampa is an incredible place to live and USF Health is a transformational place to work.

Aligned with the mission of our institution, the Department of Pediatrics fosters an atmosphere of tolerance and free exchange of ideas, where we are personally and professionally enriched by our differences. We celebrate all backgrounds and value our students, residents, fellows and faculty of every race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age and belief system. Together, we hope to create a safe space where we can learn from one another and continue to grow.

Tampa Bay is a rich and diverse community, which allows for valuable opportunities to learn how to best care for patients from different backgrounds. We hope that our sustained commitment to diversity will allow our trainees and faculty to gain the skills needed to deliver the highest quality care to all of our patients in the Bay Area.

As the Chair of the Department, I am committed to the USF Pediatrics and Med-Peds residency programs and will work to make the People, the Places and the Opportunities the best possible to support your education. I encourage you to visit, and look forward to talking to you about USF in person.

Best of luck with your education,
