Pregnancy-Related Optimal Management of Hypertension (PROMPT)

Hypertension is a common medical disorder in pregnancy. In 2020, 14.2% of women in Florida had hypertension, preeclampsia, or eclampsia during pregnancy, as reported by the Florida Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS). In 2020, the Florida Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) found that hypertensive disorders accounted for 18.2% of all pregnancy-related deaths in the state, emerging as the leading cause. Of these deaths, 66% occurred postpartum before hospital discharge and 100% were considered preventable. Evidence-based hypertension management guidelines are well established but not always utilized by all clinicians who care for pregnant or postpartum patients.

Based on this data, the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative is launching the Pregnancy- Related Optimal Management of Hypertension (PROMPT) initiative in October 2024. The initiative toolkit will follow elements from the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) Severe Hypertension in Pregnancy Patient Safety Bundle.

Hospital applications will open in August 2024 and will be available on this site at that time. The PROMPT initiative will build and expand upon FPQC’s earlier Hypertension in Pregnancy (HIP) initiative and complement efforts from the Postpartum Access and Continuity of Care (PACC) initiative.

Participation in PROMPT qualifies as one of the two FPQC initiatives required by Florida statute.
