Tampa Campus Faculty

Dr. Velanovich is a Professor of Surgery and the Vivian Clark Reeves/Joy McCann Culverhouse Endowed Chair for Pancreatic Cancer and Digestive Disorders and faculty at the Joy McCann Culverhouse Center for Swallowing Disorders.  After 13 years of reserve and active duty, he was a senior staff surgeon, then Chief of the Division of General Surgery at Henry Hospital from 1996 to 2011.  He joined the faculty of the Department of Surgery at the University of South Florida as Director, of the Division of General Surgery and is now the Vice-Chair of Education for the Department.  He is the president-elect of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract and will assume the presidency in May 2023.  He is an honorary fellow of the Colegio Brasileiro de Cirurgia Digestiva.

Dr. Narayanan was born in New Jersey and raised in Tampa, Florida. She completed her undergraduate studies, medical school, internal medicine residency including a PGY-3 chief year, and gastroenterology fellowship where she served as chief fellow here at USF. Go Bulls!  Her clinical and research interest is in small bowel diseases, but her true passion is for medical education. She is a professional Indian classical dancer and, when she's not at work or the dance studio, she loves to travel, try new restaurants, and spend time with friends and family. Dr. Narayanan is thrilled to work more closely with you during this exciting and formative time as your new academic advisor.

Dr. Champeaux earned her bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Michigan State University and her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed post-graduation residency training in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA, where she previously worked as Medical Director of the Transfusion Services and Armed Services Blood Bank Center and Anatomic & Clinical Pathology Residency program director for the pathology department. In 2013, she was appointed as Residency Program Director at USF overseeing the 4-year ACGME-accredited program. In 2017, Dr. Champeaux was selected as Chair of the Department of Pathology. Dr. Champeaux is married and has a son who plays collegiate and professional tennis. She enjoys cycling, cooking, gardening, and cold-process soap making.

Dr. Rodriguez-Waitkus aka “PRod” is an Associate Professor of Dermatology & Pathology at USF and Medical Director of the USF Diagnostic Laboratory. He is an expert in Dermatopathology, with a special interest in common and critical inflammatory dermatoses. Dr. PRod provides diagnostic services not only to USF Dermatology but also to the inpatient TGH Dermatology service and many community dermatologists. His second passion is medical/resident education, and he is actively involved in weekly dermatopathology lectures and unknown case conferences. In addition, he also serves as a USF Morsani College of Medicine Career Advisor. He is well-published and has presented in local, regional, and national meetings. Dr. Rodriguez-Waitkus loves living in Tampa and enjoys his free time with his wife & children traveling and visiting Florida attractions!

Dr. Cathy Lynch is a graduate of USF MCOM and completed her training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at USF.  She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and subspecialty certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reproductive Surgery.  Dr. Lynch is Associate Vice President/Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Women’s Health and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Dr. Lynch is married to the former Mayor of Tampa, Bob Buckhorn, and has two daughters, Grace and Colleen.   In her free time, Dr. Lynch enjoys swimming, golfing, boating, fishing, and cheering for her alma mater, Georgetown, in basketball.  She has become a Penn State football fan since her husband is an alum and Grace is a junior.  Dr. Lynch, in her consultant role as the ob-gyn to the great apes at Busch Gardens, can also be seen on episodes of “Wildlife Docs.”

Dr. Mudra Kohli Kumar received her MD degree in New Delhi, India, and trained in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, and stem cell transplantation in the United Kingdom and the US. As a professor and core faculty at USF Pediatrics, she is intimately involved in the residency training program, and undergraduate and graduate medical education. As she has held several leadership roles at MCOM including pre-clerkship course directorships and has participated hands-on in several educational activities, she is intimately familiar with the challenges and demands of medical education and curriculum at USF. She is very interested in addressing over-utilization in medicine and is exploring projects and research in this frontier. Over her 25-year involvement with USF, she has received several teaching and leadership awards – from her peers, students and residents. Dr. Kumar enjoys gardening, cooking, crafts, and other creative endeavors. She has traveled widely and is looking forward to space travel when that opportunity becomes realistic in the near future.

Collegium Lower

Dr. Terry is a Primary Care Sports Medicine physician.  She received her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  She completed her Family Medicine Residency at USF followed by a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of South Florida – Morton Plant Mease.  After fellowship, she joined USF MCOM Department of Family Medicine in 2021 as an Assistant Professor and serves as one of the team physicians for USF Athletics.  Her primary areas of interest are concussion as well as LGBTQ medicine.  For fun, Dr. Terry likes to exercise and spend time with her awesome dog, Louise.  Dr. Terry is very honored and excited to serve as your academic advisor, and she looks forward to meeting everyone.

Dr. Narvarte is a primary care physician and clinician educator at USF-MCOM. He’s originally from Chile but grew up in North Carolina and Florida. Dr. Narvarte graduated from the USF Morsani College of Medicine in 2000 and completed his training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in 2004. He then joined the USF faculty in 2005. In addition to being a part of his patients' lives as their physician, the most gratifying part of his job is working with students and residents. He enjoys helping students and watching them grow personally and professionally over the course of medical school. In his free time, he loves to spend time with his wife and daughters. His main hobbies are watching/driving them to whatever recital or sporting event in which they're participating.

Dr. Mateja is a distinguished physician and educator committed to shaping the future of medicine through exemplary teaching and mentorship. After graduating from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2006, Dr. Mateja pursued her Osteopathic Traditional Internship at Midwestern University and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of South Florida in 2010, honing her clinical skills and passion for medical education. Since joining the faculty of the Department of Internal Medicine at USF, Dr. Mateja has served as Associate Program Director since 2012. Her interests include graduate and undergraduate medical education and faculty development. Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. Mateja finds joy in exploring diverse cultures through travel, immersing herself in captivating literary works as an avid reader and skilled crocheter, and cherishing moments spent with her husband and two cherished feline companions.

Lehigh Valley Campus Faculty

Dr. Greenberg is an Emergency Medicine Physician and the Vice-Chair of the Department of Emergency and Hospital Medicine at LVHN. She is also a Professor at USF Morsani College of Medicine. She and her 4 adult children are committed to public health service to vulnerable populations and they work together in their free time on several fronts. Amigos de Guatemala and Glasses for Guatemala are two nonprofit agencies they work with at a global level. Locally, Dr. Greenberg is the Valley Youth House, medical director. This site enables SELECT USF students to run a bimonthly volunteer clinic for homeless and housing-insecure adolescents. She loves to read and write. Even scholarly writing is fun! She has research and publication experience related to the prevention of substance use and resolving gender differences in education and care provided in the Emergency Department.

Dr. Kears graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018.  She then completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network and served as their Chief Medical Resident.  She will be completing her Master of Business Administration degree in 2024.  She is currently on faculty in the Department of Medicine at Lehigh Valley Health Network.  She enjoys spending time with her family and participating in outdoor activities.

Dr. Prendergast graduated from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2008. She then completed a residency in Pediatrics at the University of Colorado and the Children's Hospital of Colorado.  She is board certified in Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine.  She is currently on faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at Lehigh Valley Health Network.
