Student-Centered Spaces
Experiential Learning Lab
The Experiential Learning Lab (ELL) is located on the 3rd floor of the Morsani College of Medicine (MDD). This 5,000 sq. ft. open black-box theater features mobile walls that move along a track in the ceiling to accommodate a variety of setups from clinical exam rooms to simulation spaces. The open flexibility of this lab allows the learners to explore task training on their own time as well as provides a space for larger classes to move through simulation activities.
Library
The Shimberg Health Sciences Library is located on the USF-Tampa campus and serves USF Health students, faculty, and staff.
In the downtown building, the Florida Blue Health Knowledge Exchange is the future of medical libraries: an epicenter of collaboration and technology. Located on the second-floor mezzanine of MDD, the Knowledge Exchange is an almost completely digital database of medical information. The state-of-the-art, world-class library features more than 4,500 online research journals and 4,500 electronic books, including the New England Journal of Medicine, the oldest and one of the most prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals. The 5,000 sq ft space features a large-scale interactive video visualization wall for multimedia presentations, an executive-style reading room, public-use Microsoft Surface Studio computers, a poster printing room, an IT help desk, and a space for technology demonstrations and recording lectures for online learning.
Anatomy Labs
The MCOM Anatomy program provides a new state-of-the-art facility for the education of anatomy through both cadaver dissection and digital imaging platforms for medical students, graduate students, residents, and fellows. The gross anatomy laboratory consists of 24 dissection tables and allows hands-on dissection under the guidance of the anatomy faculty. Student observation is also provided through a closed-circuit monitor system in the lab. Pro-section capabilities can be displayed at each of the stations through the use of a centralized overhead projection system. A digital imaging instructional platform is also being used to supplement anatomy dissection in the laboratory. The facility is under a high-security, swipe card system. The Anatomy Laboratory Director is responsible for assuring the highest standards of operation of the laboratory according to the policies of the College, the University, the Anatomical Board of Florida, and the State.
Small Group Learning Rooms
The Small Group Learning rooms (SGLs) in the MDD building are our dedicated spaces for study, collaboration, and break out sessions for courses. They are equipped with Microsoft Teams integrated TVs and reconfigurable furniture to enhance our students' experience.
Collegia Suites
The MDD building has collegia suites dedicated for each of the nine collegia programs. The suites are private apartment-style rooms outfitted with kitchens, couches, lounges, TVs, gaming systems, and tables. Each suite has been uniquely decorated by students in each collegia. They are a 'home away from home' for students to study, socialize, and commune.
The WELL
The WELL – standing for Wellness, Engagement, Leadership, and Learning – is the new name of the Shared Student Services area, which houses student support offices from all USF Health colleges. It also offers additional study space for students. Visit The WELL for more information.
Student Gym & Relaxation Room
We have a student gym and relaxation room on main campus in The WELL, helping our students stay healthy and find a positive school/life balance. At MDD, there is a Serenity Room, where students can meditate, hold prayer, and relax.
Clinical & Health Sites
Our medical students have the opportunity to learn at an extraordinary range of hospitals and teaching centers - among the best and busiest in the nation. In addition, USF Health boasts the area's largest medical practice, with more than 400 physicians treating some 500,000 patients each year.
