The Allergy and Immunology Training Program at University of South Florida /Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital (USF/JHACH) has been accredited by the ACGME since 1988. This program provides an in-depth  education to our fellows-in-training in Allergy and Immunology. Two first year and two second year fellows are trained in our program each year and, to date, we have had over 50 graduates from the program. Two years of training are required for eligibility to take the American Board of Allergy and Immunology certification examination. The program also offers a third year of training concentrating on research in immunology or allergic diseases. The fellowship experience is progressive, emphasizing basic clinical skills in the first year and increased clinical and research responsibilities, and supervisory role for first year fellows and residents, in the second and third years.

The Allergy/Immunology Training Program, under the USF Department of Pediatrics, is affiliated with Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, and the Allergy/Immunology Training Program in the USF Department of Internal Medicine in Tampa, FL. 

Our Training Program is designed to prepare specialists who will provide expert medical care for patients with allergic and immunologic disorders, and who can serve as consultants, educators, and physician scientists in the areas of asthma, eczema, food allergy, other allergic disorders, primary immune deficiency diseases, immune dysregulation, and other immunologically mediated disorders.

The Fellows spend 50% of their time in clinical training where they are exposed to pediatric and adult patients with a variety of allergic and immunologic conditions and 50% in basic and clinical research and other scholarly activities such as journal club, didactic sessions and patient case review conferences. The program has been structured so that the Fellows can benefit from the strengths of Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, the University of South Florida and other affiliated institutions. There is excellent integration between in- and out-patient experience, pediatric and adult patient populations, and patients with various allergic and immunologic conditions. Other clinical experiences include rotations in dermatology, conjoint clinics with the bone marrow transplantation service, and immune dysregulation clinic with the hematology service and cardiac transplant program. Elective experiences in other areas such as rheumatology, pulmonology, and ENT can be available.

Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital

A 216-bed teaching hospital consists of more than 150 pediatric specialists and subspecialists who service over 40 medical and surgical specialty divisions providing state-of-the-art care for children. There are 35 pediatric residents in training at this time at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital.

Adult Allergy & Immunology Training Program

The USF Internal Medicine Allergy & Immunology program is located in Tampa, Florida, this program, under the direction of Dr. Richard F. Lockey, has offered broad-based, accredited, 2 to 3-year fellowship training since 1976.
