Delivering Specialized Care

LVH-Cedar Crest is an advanced acute care hospital and is recognized for its accomplishments as a leading medical center and a community-based health care institution. It serves as a regional referral center for trauma, burn, and kidney and pancreas transplants.

Highlights of our specialized care include:

• Lehigh Valley Hospital—Cedar Crest was Pennsylvania’s first Level 1 Trauma Center and remains the region’s busiest, most-experienced trauma center for adults and children.

• Our Burn Center is a regional referral site for both pediatric and adult burn patients, serving eastern Pennsylvania as well as New Jersey, New York and surrounding areas.

• Our Heart and Vascular Center is one of the state’s largest, and has been frequently recognized as one of the country’s top programs for heart care and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report. It’s also an accredited Chest Pain Center.

• Our Cancer Center is the fourth largest in Pennsylvania and one of only 30 nationwide selected to participate in the National Cancer Institute Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP) from 2010-14. Participation allows us to offer our community expanded research opportunities and state-of-the-art cancer care.

• Our neurosurgery program uses the latest treatment breakthroughs to tackle the toughest brain and spine cases. Our neurosurgeons treat more brain tumors than anyone in the region, and the program is nationally certified as a Primary Stroke Center.

• The Transplant Center of the Lehigh Valley has performed more than 1,000 transplant surgeries in its history.

• Lehigh Valley Hospital—Cedar Crest is home to the area’s highest level neonatal intensive care unit (The Forrest G. Moyer, M.D., NICU) for newborns and premature infants, as well as the region’s only pediatric intensive care unit (The Linny and Beall Fowler PICU), devoted to the care of critically ill or injured children.

• Lehigh Valley Hospital—Cedar Crest’s Children’s ER was built just for kids and is the only one of its kind in the region. It features kid-sized equipment, activities to help keep children calm, and a staff that specializes in the care of children.

• Lehigh Valley Hospital—Muhlenberg is the site of the area’s only pediatric ambulatory surgical unit (PASU).
