The Community Nutrition concentration will prepare students for professional positions helping individuals and groups develop healthy eating habits in order to promote wellness and prevent disease. The curriculum focuses on public health nutrition, diet to prevent disease, nutrition education, and nutrition education program development.

Total program tuition cost estimates do not include application fees, late fees, registration fees, educational resources (e.g., textbooks, etc.) or the one-time new graduate student fee. Costs also exclude the Distance Learning Fee, assessed at $30/credit hour for any online course, regardless of residency or delivery modality.

Please note: With the exception of the Department of Children and Family (DCF) waivers, all other waivers (including State of Florida and USF employee) are not accepted for Self-Funded/Self-Supporting or Market Rate Tuition program courses.

  • The Community Nutrition concentration includes experiential learning in the majority of nutrition courses. Experiences include Meals on Wheels, Feeding Tampa Bay, Food as Medicine programs, and a mobile health bus. Students also have an International Field Experience (IFE) option in addition to the APE college requirement. All experiential learning serves as a structured educational experience provides students with an opportunity to practice their competencies gained through their studies at COPH.

  • Students in the Community Nutrition concentration will be trained in competencies needed to become a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and to work in the community in a variety of roles including as nutrition educators, WIC nutritionists, worksite health and wellness coaches, wellness program coordinators and settings including the public health department, community agencies, and in Extension programs.
