Geriatric Oncology Adherence Link: A Health Program Supporting Older Adults Prescribed Oral Anticancer Medication

Mission: To provide older adults prescribed oral anticancer medication supportive, evidence-based medication and symptom management guidelines to achieve successful, safe cancer care in the home environment.

Vision: Our web-based program aims to promote medication adherence, symptom management, and self-efficacy among older adults prescribed oral anticancer medications through trusted information that is evidence-based. We strive to decrease unnecessary healthcare utilization (unplanned oncology visits, urgent or acute care center, emergency room visits, and hospital stays) and quality of life in this population.

Values: We focus on the health of older adults prescribed oral anticancer medication who have specific needs in relation to aging, comorbidities, polypharmacy, and technology use. Our web-based program uses frameworks that are theoretically driven and rooted in behavior change theory, engagement of technology, and customized considerations for older adults to provide patients with the tools they need to self-manage cancer care in the home environment. Above all else, we strive to improve the health and quality of life among older adults with cancer who are prescribed oral anticancer medication using a sustainable web-based program.
