Patient Education for Patients and their Families

Doctor educating patientsEducation is central to successfully managing your diabetes. Taking an active role in your diabetes care makes a huge difference in how well you cope with this life-long condition, as well as drastically reduces potential complications, which can mean fewer hospitalizations.

The USF Diabetes and Endocrinology Center is committed to providing education and training that will permit patients to successfully manage their diabetes. We provide comprehensive educational programs for all individuals affected by diabetes – giving you and your family the tools you need to address the obstacles that diabetes can place between you and your life goals. Our multidisciplinary program is accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) and is designed to help you learn how to take charge of your diabetes. We offer a variety of group and individual education classes for patients and their families in English and Spanish:

  • Diabetes Self-Management Education (Type 1 Diabetes)
  • Diabetes Self-Management Education (Type 2 Diabetes)
     

Diabetes Technology Program

The tools used to manage diabetes are rapidly evolving. The USF Diabetes and Endocrinology Center is at the forefront of diabetes technologies, utilizing cutting edge devices in our clinical care and conducting research aimed at testing new tools and improving their value to our patients and their providers. Our clinical providers and device specialists are experts in diabetes technology and our program offers intensive training, education, support to patients looking to best use existing and developing technologies to achieve their goals.

Classes include:

  • Exploring Insulin Pumps and Continuous Glucose Monitors
  • Insulin Pump Training for New and Experienced Users
  • Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Training
  • Uploading Device Data, Pattern Recognition and Device Setting Adjustment
