Welcome to the Division of Endocrinology and the Endocrinology and Metabolism Training Program at the USF Health College of Medicine
The advanced sub-specialty residency training program in endocrinology is a two-year program with three resident fellow positions each year. The main goal of the teaching program of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism is to provide comprehensive instruction and training in the principles and practice of endocrinology and metabolism for physicians who have had suitable background training in Internal Medicine. During the first year of training, the program makes emphasis general aspects of clinical endocrinology, the second year makes emphasis in more specialized endocrinology training, scholarly activities, leading roles, procedures such as thyroid Biopsy, more independence of senior fellows from faculties and more supervision of senior fellows of other trainees.
Our training program participates in the National Residency Matching Program for the subspecialties of Internal Medicine. To be eligible for a fellowship in the Endocrinology Training Program the candidate must be in an ACGME accredited program and prior to starting the fellowship, the candidate must complete three years of Internal Medicine in an ACGME accredited training program. We accept application for J-1 Visa holder, we currently do not accept H1-B Visa holder.
We currently have about twenty Endocrinology faculty members between the three sites who have sub-subspecialty expertise in different areas. There are opportunities to be involved in research at MCC, JAH and in-clinical research trials through the USF diabetes Center. These faculty members provide a wide range of expertise for mentoring and training fellows in the field of endocrinology, such as education, patient care and research.
Patient Care occurs in our affiliated hospitals (Tampa General Hospital, Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute and the James A. Haley (Tampa) VA Hospital.
Program Description:
The Endocrinology Fellowship Program at the University of South Florida in Tampa is designed to prepare you for the broad practice of this subspecialty by providing excellent well-rounded training in clinical endocrinology.
This training program will provide extensive supervised clinical training in different areas of the subspecialty of Endocrinology. The fellowship is designed to complement and supplement prior training in Internal Medicine and to provide in-depth basic and clinical knowledge and the highest level of professional competency in direct patient care and consultation in Endocrinology.
Our Program have six fellows in which they will be trained to master the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies determined by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to be essential for subspecialist physicians in Endocrinology.
Program Aims:
To educate our endocrinology fellows with the knowledge and the clinical skills for excellence in the practice of endocrinology, developing proficiency in the evaluation and management of endocrinology pathologies
To foster an environment of compassionate and ethical care to a diverse patient population in the setting of utmost professionalism and integrity that prioritize safety and patient centered care
To engage our fellows in the process teaching, academic medicine, and clinical research to promote critical thinking in endocrinology, and to provide the foundation to pursue a career in academic medicine if desired
Our Two-Year Program Offers
- Superior academic subspecialty training in a professional, collegial atmosphere
- One-on-one working relationships between fellows and supervising attendings
- Active endocrinology outpatient clinics and hospital consult services, rich in endocrinology pathology
- Experience with large volume and wide variety of endocrine problems, ranging from common to exotic
- Each sites have endocrine testing available for conducting endocrine laboratory and radiologic evaluations and other as needed.
- Multidisciplinary conferences in Bone Health and Reproductive Endocrinology every 3 months.
- Weekly Tumor Board
- Specialized Diabetes training in CGMS, Insulin Pumps and other intensive insulin therapy programs
- Weekly endocrine core curriculum conferences, weekly case presentations, weekly board review and monthly Journal Club
- Participate in the education of medical students and internal medicine residents
- Continuity Care Clinic
Accreditation
The Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Certification
You will be eligible to take the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) subspecialty examination in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases upon completion of the fellowship.
