Salud Latina

Overview

Salud Latina USF is an academic health initiative that was established by the University of South Florida’s College of Public Health (USF COPH) in January 2021 to address public health issues, impacting communities globally through outreach, engagement, education, and research. The four pillars include 1) Community Engagement, Education, and Outreach, 2) Academic Scholarly Exchange, 3) Research, and 4) Student Support and Mentorship.

To achieve this, USF COPH faculty and students conduct health research, host webinars to provide evidence-based health information and resources, and actively engage in health-related activities and events alongside USF students and faculty in all programs. Additionally, the Salud Latina initiative enables USF COPH students to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the MPH program, further advancing their competency-based development in public health research and practice.

Why Salud Latina?

Latinos and Hispanics have always been affected by communicable and non-communicable diseases. They continually face barriers that influence their health and increase their risk of poor health outcomes. Therefore, the Salud Latina USF initiative aims to improve health outcomes by promoting language-accessible resources, community outreach programs, targeted health education campaigns, and appropriate research to address these health issues.
