Biography

Dr. Shazand is a genomicist acting as adjunct professor at USF and the director of the Shriners Children’s genomics institute. Kamran is currently leading a large-scale NGS-based study on pediatric neurological and orthopedic rare disorders. This project contributes to elucidating the etiology of these disorders through whole genome sequencing several thousands of patient families combined with their demographics and clinical information. At his previous positions, he led various multimillion dollar-funded research programs in private and public institutions on pancreatic cancer, type 2 diabetes and reproductive disorders. He played an instrumental role in the foundation of Canada's largest genome center, the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (Toronto), and the International Cancer Genomics Consortium (ICGC). He has been part of several patents in his career. Kamran is an active member of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG). His focus is to use the power of genomics to build a better life for patients and their families regardless of their geographic location.
