Online MPH with a Concentration in Social Marketing

Online MPH in Social Marketing at USF's College of Public Health

Social Marketing modifies commercial marketing strategies and tactics to design products, promote policies, and influence behaviors for the greater social good. This Online MPH concentration equips students with the public health and social marketing skills needed to tackle complex health problems by applying marketing principles and social change tools to design, implement, and evaluate behavioral interventions and policy changes.

The curriculum gives training in marketing and social change theoretical models, formative research skills, program management skills, program evaluation techniques, and ethical principles that guide social marketers. The required coursework in the concentration is exclusively online with electives and applied practice opportunities offered on the Tampa campus, online, or globally.

There are unique benefits to both studying online and studying on campus. Whether you want more flexibility or value in-person learning, it’s important to choose the right option for you. Explore the differences between our Online and Classroom-Based MPH programs.

In particular, contracted companies conduct the research, design creative strategies, and perform evaluations for entities such as CDC, FDA, OMH, as well as state programs (e.g., in tobacco control). Managed care organizations and other healthcare providers that need effective, multi-audience communications also hire social marketers, or send their employees for advanced training in this area. Finally, professionals often work in global settings either directly for non-governmental organizations (e.g., CARE, Save the Children), or with agencies contracted with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
