What is Quality Improvement?

A formal approach to the analysis of performance and systematic efforts to improve it.

USF Quality Improvement Mission

Guided by a focus on quality, patient safety, and co-production of care, our physicians will strive to continuously improve healthcare delivery in our communities. We are invested in co-producing doctors who continuously improve healthcare.

Resources

  • The IHI Open School curriculum brings you essential training and tools in an online, educational community to help you and your team deliver excellent, safe care. When you engage with the Open School courses and chapters, you build core skills in improvement, safety, and leadership. IHI provides an abundance of QI resources; check out a few of these in their YouTube video library.

Residents and fellows can register for the IHI Open School curriculum using the IHI Registration Process.

From the IHI Open School online curriculum, we recommend the following courses:

QI 102: How to Improve with the Model for Improvement
QI 103: Testing and Measuring Changes with PDSA Cycles
QI 104: Interpreting Data: Run Charts, Control Charts, and other Measurement Tools
    QI 105: Leading Quality Improvement

  • SQUIRE 2.0 guidelines can assist teams in project development. Most journals will require authors to adhere to these guidelines for publication. Delve into the SQUIRE 2.0 guidelines.

  • This Quality Improvement/Patient Safety Directory links ACGME Common Program Requirements to USF GME quality improvement and patient safety resources.

  • This Quality Improvement workbook walks teams through QI project development and implementation. It also includes a number of links and resources.

  • If you are unsure if your project requires ARC approval, please contact us by email. Please note that ARC approval is also required at the institution where your project is being implemented (i.e.-TGH, MCC, etc).
