Refractive Surgery and LASIK
The skilled physicians at the USF Health Eye Institute offer comprehensive screenings to determine if you are a candidate for refractive eye surgery.
If you wear glasses for myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), have astigmatism or have a combination of these conditions, refractive surgery maybe an option for you. The most well-known refractive surgery is LASIK, which is intended to reduce reliance on glasses and contact lenses. This innovate technique treats vision problems by using a laser to reshape the cornea.
USF Eye Institute offers (PRK and LASIK) procedures to correct nearsightedness, far sightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia.

What to Expect
Recovery from LASIK is relatively quick. Soon after surgery, most patients:
- Notice better and more clear vision almost instantly, with increased improvement over weeks
- Shower or bathe the day after surgery, taking care to avoid getting soap or water in the eye
- Are ready to drive, based on your post-op visit to our team.
- Return to work within a day or two
- Resume wearing makeup approximately one week after the procedure, it is however recommended to throw away your old make up and purchase new makeup to avoid infection.
- Resume exercise within a few days
