USF Health is the only health care provider in Florida with a collaborative effort between Cardiovascular Sciences and Neurology, dedicated to studying and providing care for diseases that affect both the nervous system and the cardiovascular system. Our multi-disciplinary program provides comprehensive patient care by providing access and expertise from Vascular Neurology, Interventional Cardiology, Non-invasive Cardiology and Electrophysiology.
The heart and brain are closely linked, and we are only beginning to understand the dramatic impact they have on each other. Importantly, there is increasingly striking research from clinical trials that suggests that treatments offered through joint collaborative clinical care is critical to saving patient lives.
Specifically, clots forming within the heart from a variety of disorders may become dislodged and travel to the brain to cause stroke or hemorrhage. Our physicians are working to understand how we can diagnose and use therapeutic options to manage these disorders and prevent stroke. USF Health cardiologists and neurologists provide diagnostic testing, arrangement of specialty consultation, follow-up, and procedural coordination.
Patients will also have the opportunity to participate in groundbreaking clinical trials that will give them access to new treatment approaches.
