Led by a team of highly-trained cardiologists, USF Health Sports Cardiology is dedicated to providing comprehensive cardiovascular care to active individuals and athletes with known or undiagnosed cardiovascular conditions. From high school athletes to elite professionals to weekend warriors, our experts personalize care to every individual’s athletic lifestyle.

Leading the Region

Our unique program is one of the few in the nation and the only one of its kind in the Tampa Bay region. Recognizing the physiologic demands the cardiovascular system endures during exercise, our experts have developed structured clinical pathways for coordinated and multidisciplinary care to help maximize performance and optimize the quality of life.

Services

  • Pre-participation cardiovascular screening for athletes. 
  • Evaluation for unexpected or unexplained decline in performance.
  • Evaluation of symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting or palpitations during competition or training.
  • Clearance to return to play after a significant medical event or treatment.
  • Guidance and reassurance in managing exercise goals in the setting of established cardiovascular disease or after recovery from a significant medical event.
  • Risk assessment for sudden cardiac death in patients with a personal or family history of cardiovascular disease, including congenital or genetic diseases.
  • Establishing preventative cardiac care in athletes of all levels.
