Casual Inference in Public Health Research Lab
Overview
Advancing Causal Inference in Public Health Research
Public health researchers often aim to answer questions about cause-and-effect, such as:
- Does smoking increase the risk of dementia?
- How effective is a new lifestyle intervention in preventing diabetes?
- Does pesticide exposure increase the risk of Parkinson’s disease?
Causal inference methods can help answer these cause-and-effect research questions.
The Causal Inference in Public Health Research (CIPHR) Lab applies, evaluates, and develops causal inference methods. The CIPHR lab brings together students with varying skill levels (e.g., undergraduate to doctoral) and backgrounds (e.g., epidemiology and biostatistics) to work on projects that involve causal inference methods. To provide the next generation of public health researchers training in causal inference methods, the CIPHR lab also organizes educational activities for public health students at USF.
