COPH Panama Program

Academic Activities

The University of South Florida’s College of Public Health Program in Panama is strategically housed at the City of Knowledge to allow for close collaborations and opportunities for academic, service, and research exchange. There are also a few dozen USF affiliate faculty that work with us in the field.

Study Abroad Groups

For over fourteen years, the program has organized dozens of study abroad groups, including, but not limited to: public health nutrition, nursing, medical residents, and other health sciences. Some of the groups were organized through the USF Health Education and International Foundation in Panama.

USF Credit Granting International Courses

International Health Education

Hands-on course conducted at peri-urban communities, developing health education proposal, based on formative research and the learning needs of the community. Come work with community members at their local environment.

International Perspectives in Women’s Health Issues

Interdisciplinary women’s health issues at a global health level, from a human rights perspective. Panama serves as a case study to learn about human trafficking, commercial sex work, sexual and reproductive health, chronic diseases, and more. This is a life-changing course.

Certificate Programs

The program conducts training mostly on clinical research, including nosocomial infections, incorporating epidemiological aspects, case studies, international and local regulations, ethical aspects, and more. The certificate programs are usually taught in Spanish.

Workshops and Seminars

Local and regional workshops and seminars on clinical research, behavioral research, epidemiology, social marketing, and more, are offered in Panama, other countries in the Region, and online.

Conferences

Since 2006, the Panama Program has organized an international conference called Vaccinology in the Tropics, in this conference we discuss innovations in vaccines, vaccine hesitancy, immunization programs, and research in vaccine development. The conference was born based on the advanced immunization program of Panama and the groundbreaking vaccine research that is conducted in this country and the Region.
