Breast Surgery
Overview
About Our Division
At USF Health and Tampa General Hospital, the Division of Breast Surgery is committed to excellence in the surgical management of benign and malignant breast conditions. Our team includes fellowship-trained breast surgeons and advanced practice providers who specialize in providing personalized, evidence-based care in a compassionate and supportive environment.
We are one of the highest-volume breast surgery centers in Florida, performing more than 500 surgical cases annually, with a projected 10% increase in volume each year. The division offers a full spectrum of state-of-the-art procedures, including nipple-sparing mastectomies, oncoplastic surgeries, and minimally invasive cancer operations. We were also the first program on Florida’s West Coast to perform Resensation® surgery, designed to restore sensation following mastectomy and reconstruction.
Collaboration is central to our care model. Our team works closely with colleagues in plastic surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, genetics, and supportive care, and plays a pivotal role in the multidisciplinary treatment planning at the TGH Cancer Institute. We also utilize nurse navigators to help guide patients through their treatment journey from diagnosis through survivorship.
Mission
To provide cutting-edge, patient-centered surgical care for breast health using innovative technology, multidisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to both oncologic excellence and cosmetic outcomes.
Clinical & Research Innovation
- First in the region to offer LYMPHA surgery, in collaboration with plastic surgery, to reduce lymphedema risk
- Use of SOZO bioimpedance technology in three clinics for early detection of subclinical lymphedema
- Actively enrolling patients in eight clinical trials and maintaining a breast tumor tissue biorepository
- Conducting MagTrace trials for advanced sentinel lymph node identification
- Recognized as regional leaders in minimally invasive and oncoplastic techniques
Education & Leadership
We proudly contribute to the training of USF medical students and general surgery residents. Weekly multidisciplinary tumor board conferences and hands-on mentorship prepare our trainees for prestigious fellowship matches. With plans underway to establish our own breast surgery fellowship, we remain at the forefront of academic excellence and leadership in breast surgical education.
Our faculty actively present at national conferences and publish impactful breast research, advancing care and empowering the next generation of surgical leaders.
