Case Conferences and Didactic Lectures
Resident conferences feature lectures given by subspecialty radiologists on topics within their field. Emphasis is placed on topics outlined by the American Board of Radiology CORE exam study guides, as well as on novel developments in the field and updates to the literature. There are occasional lectures on other aspects of radiology including topics such as medical malpractice, contract review and negotiation, personal finance and wealth management, and other real world relevant topics. The physics curriculum is worked into the lecture schedule with weekly or biweekly medical physics lectures given by our in-house medical physicist. The physics lectures are based upon the ABR CORE exam study guide, with the curriculum repeating yearly for repetition and retention.
Morning conference is 7:30-8:30 am daily, with each week featuring lectures from the same radiologic subspecialty. There are occasional noon conferences or visiting faculty lectures, which vary on a weekly basis. Attendance is mandatory for all residents not on evening/night or IR rotations. All lectures are recorded and available for residents at any time on the residency OneDrive.
Residents at the various sites may attend multidisciplinary conferences at their and the attending’s discretion. These conferences include subspecialty tumor boards, interstitial lung disease conference, NICU rounds, epilepsy conference, and transplant conference among others.
There are biweekly or triweekly resident run case conferences following morning lecture. These are attended by residents only, and breakfast is provided. Residents present the interesting and rare cases they have seen in a collegial environment with their peers. These case conferences are a great opportunity for residents to share advice and teaching points.
There are occasional resident townhalls built into the schedule that are attended by all residents, chief residents, the program director, and occasionally the assistant program directors. USF prides itself on being resident centered, and these meetings are a great way for residents to give feedback on all aspects of the residency.
