Student Research Requests

The USF Department of Radiology and Tampa General Hospital Radiology proudly support medical student research in diagnostic and interventional radiology. However, due to high demand for research opportunities, we are unable to accommodate all requests. Please read the below to determine the path you should take to be able to complete research with our team.

USF Medical Students

You will need to complete a mandatory shadowing experience in the USF/TGH Department of Radiology set up by our team. All shadowing must be arranged through our department. No student will be granted a shadowing experience for research without having gone through the RISE office first.

Please note that due to the timing of some projects, the current need and funding, there is no way we can guarantee students a project.

If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Summer Decker, Vice Chair for Research at sdecker@usf.edu.

Non-USF Medical Students

At this time, we cannot accommodate any research requests from outside medical students unless it is special circumstances. Please contact Dr. Decker at sdecker@usf.edu with those special requests.

Undergraduate Students

Due to limited space, USF and TGH Department of Radiology do not have any research opportunities for undergraduate students. All USF undergraduates with interest in research should contact the USF Office of Undergraduate Research. Other opportunities might be made available in the USF Morsani College of Medicine through the Office of Research.

We are unable to accommodate outside undergraduate student requests at this time.

High School Students

Unfortunately, at this time, due to HIPPA and hospital restrictions, USF and TGH Department of Radiology do not have any research or shadowing opportunities available. Please contact Tampa General Hospital directly for any volunteering opportunities for high school students.
