The Morsani College of Medicine has active research programs in basic, translational, and clinical sciences. Research is carried out in Departments, Institutes, Centers and at our Veterans Hospitals and our primary teaching facility, Tampa General Hospital. In addition, there are rich collaborations with the Colleges of Public Health, Nursing and Pharmacy as well as the USF College of Arts and Sciences.

Our goal is to pursue new knowledge in the biomedical sciences, clinical sciences, and healthcare delivery, relevant to human health and disease. Please explore our research initiatives using the tabs above. The resources tab provides information for current faculty to facilitate research efforts.

Predictivity of preoperative weight loss on co-morbidity resolution in bariatric patients

CONCLUSIONS: Prior studies have indicated that metabolic and bariatric surgery is effective in treating class III obesity and the decline of co-morbidities. Here, we show that the benefits of metabolic and bariatric surgery on diabetes and HLD are enhanced with preoperative weight loss in the immediate postoperative period. C2-C3 anterolisthesis with myelopathy in a toddler with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease: a rare case and review of syndromic pediatric C2-C3 instability

CONCLUSION: This case highlights the need for careful evaluation of cervical spine instability in pediatric patients with motor delay. Neurosurgeons should avoid prematurely attributing deficits to cerebral palsy or underlying syndromic disorders and should maintain a high index of suspicion for potentially reversible cervical pathology. Early diagnosis and surgical treatment can lead to substantial neurological recovery.

Long-term safety, tolerability, and efficacy of subcutaneous efgartigimod PH20 in generalized myasthenia gravis: final results from a phase 3 open-label extension study (ADAPT-SC+)

BACKGROUND: Efgartigimod is a human immunoglobulin (IgG1) antibody Fc fragment that reduces IgG levels through neonatal Fc receptor blockade. ADAPT-SC+ assessed the long-term safety, tolerability, and efficacy of subcutaneous (SC) efgartigimod PH20 in adult participants with generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG). Previously, ADAPT-SC demonstrated noninferiority of efgartigimod PH20 SC to intravenous efgartigimod.
