Fellowships
Neuroradiology Fellowship
The USF Health Department of Radiology offers a 1-year ACGME accredited Neuroradiology Fellowship. We will be participating in the NRMP Match for each interview season. Graduating fellows will be comfortable with the appropriate use, protocol, and interpretation of all conventional diagnostic neuroradiology modalities, including MRI, MRA, CT and CTA.
Mission Statement
Dedicated to providing the highest quality care to the patients of this institution and to advance the science of the neuroradiology through research and teaching. We are committed to providing our services to the patients in a comprehensive and compassionate manner that maintains human dignity and is in conformance with the mission of the sponsoring institution.
The Program
Fellows will gain basic proficiency in the protocol, post processing and interpretation of advanced neuro-imaging techniques including diffusion tensor imaging, perfusion imaging and functional MRI. Fellows will be expected to perform basic, routine procedures including myelography, spine injections and CT guided biopsy. Tampa General Hospital and the USF Health clinics are busy tertiary referral centers. Fellows in this program will be exposed to a wide range of pediatric and adult spine, brain and head and neck pathology.
Program Objectives

- Tampa General Hospital is a private, not-for-profit hospital and one of the most comprehensive medical facilities in Florida serving a dozen counties with a population in excess of six million. For nearly two decades, TGH has been named one of the Nation’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.
- The Wallace Trauma Center at TGH is the area’s only Level I Trauma Center and TGH is one of just two adult & pediatric ABA-verified burn centers in Florida. With five medical helicopters*, we are able to transport critically injured or ill patients from 23 surrounding counties to receive the advanced care they need. The hospital is home to the leading organ transplant center in the country, having performed over 14,000 solid organ transplants. TGH is also a nationally certified comprehensive stroke center. Other outstanding centers include internal medicine, heart & vascular, orthopedics, oncology, high-risk and normal obstetrics, urology, ENT, endocrinology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, parathyroid and thyroid, and the Muma Children’s Hospital at TGH including the Jennifer Leigh Muma Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. TGH is the primary teaching hospital for the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and the region’s only academic health system.

Our neuroradiology fellow rotates predominantly between Tampa General Hospital and the TGH outpatient imaging center next door. At TGH, the fellow reads and interprets neuroimaging from the emergency room, operating room, and the inpatient floors. There is a mix of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, radiographs, myelograms, and digital subtraction imaging. The fellow also participates in interventional procedures with the neurosurgical and neurovascular teams. At the stand alone TGH imaging center, the fellow reads and interprets follow up examinations of patients discharged from the hospital as well as referrals from patients treated at other facilities. This provides continuity of care and a great learning experience. Fellows also can rotate through the other TGH imaging centers and get exposure to outpatient imaging of brains and spines from the community. Ultimately, our fellows gain experience with acutely ill patients, post operative studies, and outpatient imaging.
Fellows will have a minimum of 4 weeks rotation in Head & Neck, Spine, Non-invasive Vascular, PEDS, and Vascular neuroradiology.
-
- USF neuroradiology fellows learn from peer-to-peer interactions in the reading room with CAQ trained neuroradiologists, didactic lectures, journal clubs, and weekly multidisciplinary conferences
-
- Neuro-oncology tumor board every Wednesday
- Head and neck tumor board every Thursday

Testimonials
Tyler Anderson, MD - 2023-24 Neuroradiology Fellow
USF prepared me to be a practicing neuroradiologist. Case volume and complexity was what you want. TGH being a trauma and stroke center, as well as having a busy neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and neurology service provided no shortage of learning cases. The faculty is collegial and great to work with. Ample moonlighting opportunities rounded it out for me.
