Biography

Candice Mateja, DO, is an accomplished physician and academician who has dedicated her career to teaching and developing the next generation of medical professionals. She obtained her medical degree from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2006, and following that, she completed her Osteopathic Traditional Internship via Midwestern University from 2006–2007. She went on to complete her internal medicine residency at the University of South Florida in 2010. Since then, Candice has been an esteemed member of the Department of Internal Medicine faculty at USF. Her passion for teaching is evident in her role as Associate Program Director, which she has held since 2012. She is also the Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee, where she plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing policies to ensure that all medical residents meet the highest standards of competence. Candice's passion for teaching has been recognized by numerous teaching awards, which are a testament to her dedication to medical education. Her interests extend beyond just teaching residents and medical students, as she is also passionate about faculty development, covering resident remediation, the role of clinical competency committees, as well as the ACGME Milestones. In her personal life, Candice enjoys traveling and exploring new cultures. She is an avid reader and enjoys books of all kinds and crocheting. She also cherishes spending quality time with her husband and two cats.
