Preliminary Year
Each year approximately 10-17 positions are offered. There are separate listings on NRMP for Preliminary Program that are available for only applicants matching into advanced programs at USF (For example, IM-Rad-Onc, IM-Derm, IM- Rads, IM-Ophtho). NRMP calls these "Joint A/P programs." We also have a general Preliminary Year program that is not associated with any particular advanced program, this is our General Preliminary program. We coordinate with the departments of Radiology, Radiation-Oncology, Dermatology, and Ophthalmology to provide information about our preliminary year program during their interview days. Interviews for the general Preliminary Year program will be sent out following review of applications submitted via ERAS.
The schedule for Preliminary Interns is created to build a strong foundation of knowledge in Internal Medicine as well as experiences tailored to your ultimate career training. You will learn each of the hospitals, build relationships with colleagues that you will be consulting with in later years, and start rotating with your advanced programs during the intern year. This makes for an easy transition into your next step in training.
