Our mission is to develop our residents into physician leaders who have a strong foundation in patient care and medical knowledge but are also skilled in teaching, scholarly activity, leadership, and quality improvement.

We are recruiting our next class to join our family. We are looking for individuals

  • who are clinically curious
  • who want to grow as clinicians, leaders, educators, scholars
  • who want to contribute to the growth and innovation of our program
  • who understand that the service and commitment to patient care is a privilege

How to Apply

The USF Internal Medicine Residency Program accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We host a virtual open house around August. Follow our social media accounts to stay tuned for the details.

How we use signaling and geographic preferencing

Invited to interview 2025

We holistically review applications; however, due to the high volume of applications, the holistic review process starts with applicants who express interest in the program using the ERAS signaling and geographic preference tools. As all students at USF Morsani College of Medicine are granted an interview and signals are intended to be used for interview selection, we advise the home students against using a signal for our program. Please note when reviewing the Residency Explorer Tool below, of the 19% of students that did not signal the majority were students from the home program.

For preliminary program applicants, again due to the high volume of applications, the holistic review process starts with applicants who express interest in the program using the ERAS signaling and geographic preference tools. Applicants that receive interviews for USF Radiology, Moffitt Radiation Oncology, and USF Dermatology will have an interview for the preliminary program included in their interview day. Applicants that have received an interview in an advanced program at USF, please let us know.

Application Requirements

To apply for the USF Internal Medicine residency program, submit the following documents:

  • Completed ERAS application
  • USMLE/COMLEX score report - Step 2 scores will need to be received before interview invitation released
  • Medical school transcript
  • Personal statement
  • 3 or 4 letters of recommendation
  • MSPE (Dean's letter)

Applications submitted after December 1st will not be reviewed.

Timeline for Interview Offers

Given the time involved in the holistic review process we offer categorical and preliminary program interviews on a rolling basis, beginning in September.  We do not maintain a waitlist and every applicant sent an invitation to interview will have at least 2 days to select an interview day before further students are sent invitations to interview. We continue to offer interview invitations throughout the recruitment season, with the last invitations occurring in early January. Timing of the interview offers or date interviewed are not reflectiveof our enthusiasm about your candidacy. Please contact us for special circumstances, such as those couples matching with their partner receiving an invitation from another USF program.

Prelim Program Timeline

We offer 3 interview dates throughout the season focused on preliminary interns. These interview days will be abbreviated but will include a program overview, faculty interview, and time with a chief resident and current prelims in the program. There will be no social the night before.

If you are interviewing with USF Radiology, Moffitt Radiation Oncology, or USF Dermatology - your interview day for the preliminary program is included in your advanced interview day. For those that received an interview for any other USF Advanced programs, please reach to notify our program office.

Interview Dates and Overview

Interviews will run from October to January. The interview half day will start with a program overview around noon. In the afternoon the applicants will be scheduled for a faculty interview, a small group discussion with current residents, a chief resident interview, and an individual meeting with the program director. Interviews are scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. There will be a pre-interview virtual social on Tuesday night for those attending that week's interview days. Invited applicants will receive access to an internal website with additional information on the program and interview day before their interview.

Second Looks

In-person second looks are not required or endorsed. If an applicant is in the area and wants to arrange an informal tour with a chief resident please reach out to arrange. Scheduling second looks will have no impact on the applicants rank list status.
