Residency Program Tracks
Lifestyle Medicine
Residents will gain expertise in using lifestyle interventions such as nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and sleep hygiene to prevent, manage, and reverse chronic diseases. They will also be eligible to sit for the certification in Lifestyle Medicine. This track is ideal for those passionate about holistic and preventive care, aiming to integrate lifestyle medicine into their primary care practice and promote healthy living within the community.
Sports Medicine
Residents will develop skills in musculoskeletal examination and injury management, participate in sports team coverage, and engage in research on sports medicine innovations. This track is suited for those interested in treating and preventing sports-related injuries and illnesses, promoting physical fitness, and working with athletes. These residents would be well-prepared for future fellowship training in Sports Medicine if so desired.
Community Practice
Residents will provide comprehensive healthcare in community settings, collaborate with the local health department and organizations, and engage in public health initiatives. This track is perfect for those committed to serving diverse and underserved populations, addressing social determinants of health, and improving community health outcomes.
MBA Track
Residents will gain insights into healthcare economics, policy, and leadership by completing coursework that contributes towards an MBA degree. During their training, they will receive a certificate towards their MBA and have the option to stay on during an optional 4th year to complete the degree while working with our department. This track is designed for those interested in healthcare management, administration, and entrepreneurship, aiming to lead and innovate within the healthcare sector.
MPH Track
Residents will earn a certificate in an area of interest towards a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree during their residency, participate in public health research and policy development, and implement community health interventions. They have the option to stay on during an optional 4th year to complete the MPH degree while working with our department. This track is for those who want to integrate medical practice with public health principles, focusing on disease prevention, health promotion, and population health.
Medical Informatics
Residents will learn to leverage electronic health records (EHRs) and health information systems, engage in projects involving data analysis, AI, and health IT innovations, and develop skills in clinical decision support systems. They will be prepared to weigh-in on hospital wide projects in informatics. This track is ideal for those interested in leveraging information technology to improve healthcare delivery, patient outcomes, and medical research.
Global Health
Residents will be empowered to engage in global health work both locally and abroad. They will be able to collaborate with international health organizations and NGOs and conduct research on global health issues. This track is suited for those passionate about addressing health challenges in diverse international settings and promoting global health equity and sustainable development. If interested in doing longer stints of work abroad, residents on this track can stay for an optional 4th year and work abroad and locally for our department.
Academic Medicine/Faculty Track
Residents will engage in teaching medical students and junior residents, develop and implement educational curricula and assessments, and conduct clinical and educational research projects. This track is perfect for those who aspire to careers in medical education and academic leadership, focusing on teaching, research, and faculty development.
