Biography

Dr. Chen joined the USF faculty on August 29, 2011. He is a Professor of Biostatistics, Concentration Lead, and Director of Study Design & Data Analysis (SDDA) at the College of Public Health. His biostatistical research interests include clinical trial design and data analysis, differential privacy and medical data sharing, missing data in medical research, longitudinal data analyses, causal inference, and epidemiological methods. He provides biostatistical review for NIH clinical trial applications. Dr. Chen has published more than 150 research articles and have been involved in more than 50 clinical trials, with seven being NIH-funded endeavors. His biostatistics paper, “How Big Is a Big Odds Ratio” has been widely cited by medical and public health researchers, with over 2,000 citations to date. His collaborations with investigators at Columbia University and USF have resulted in more than 25 funded research projects, with 18 being NIH-funded endeavors. Dr. Chen has taught 'Clinical Trials: Design, Conduct, and Analysis,' 'Fundamentals of Clinical Trials,' 'Biostatistics I & II,' 'Multilevel Data Analysis and Modeling,' 'Epidemiological Methods,' and 'Biostatistical Case Studies and Collaboration I & II' courses.
