Biography

Dr. Haiduven, PhD, RN, CIC, CPH, FAPIC, is a Professor at the College of Public Health. She joined USF in 2001. Dr. Haiduven conducted research at the V. A. VISN 8 Patient Safety Center of Inquiry and Research Center of Excellence, and the University of South Florida College of Public Health (USF COPH) until 2014. Dr. Haiduven specialized in Occupational Health for her Ph.D., with a minor in teaching. Dr. Haiduven has teaching, advising, research and service responsibilities at USF. Dr. Haiduven is currently the Director of the Infection Control Programs at the USF COPH. These include a Master’s in Public Health with Infection Control Concentration (which she developed in 2013), a Graduate Certificate in Infection Control (since 2003) and an infection control minor in the Bachelors of Science in Public Health Undergraduate Program. She teaches three of the four required infection control concentration courses. She has over 20 years of experience as an Infection Control Professional and is currently board certified in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC) as well as a Fellow of APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control & Epidemiology). Dr. Haiduven is the course director and instructor for 3 courses: 1) Disease Surveillance & Monitoring (PHC 6251), 2) Infectious Disease Prevention Strategies (PHC 6517), and 3) Infection Control Program Design (PHC 6314). Dr. Haiduven's research interests have been in the prevention of sharps injuries in healthcare workers, with a focus on evaluating sharps devices designed for safety. Dr. Haiduven has served as a mentor for numerous students in their applied practice experiences and/or special projects, resulting in opportunities for students to engage in research in her labs, scientific presentations, and contributing to writing abstracts and manuscripts. She served as Trainer, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention’s “Safety Training Course for Healthcare Workers Going to West Africa in Response to the 2014 Ebola Outbreak”, Anniston, Alabama, October 2014-March 2015, participating in 7/15 trainings that were provided. Dr. Haiduven is a member and fellow of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, contributing as first author of the chapter entitled "Immunization in the Healthcare Worker" in the APIC Text of Infection Control and Epidemiology for three editions. She serves on the editorial board for Infection Control and Healthcare Epidemiology, a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals and the member of several honor societies. She has an extensive list of publications, presentations and invited lectures.
