Dr. Maguire completed three funded studies in the area of perinatal substance abuse. Funding from SNRS supported an investigation of the interactions between mothers and their infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome using Noldus Observer XT. USF Health internal funding supported a qualitative study of the specialized skills used by NICU nurses and other professionals to successfully feed infants with NAS. A study funded by the CON enabled data collection in Chitre, Panama to study the prevalence of substance use among new mothers in 2017.
