Med-Peds Residency
Overview
Residency Program
Welcome to the Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Residency Program at the University of South Florida! Our program offers the best of two outstanding departments and provides residents with exceptional training across a wide range of clinical settings, patient populations, and disease processes.
Residents train in some of the most respected institutions in the country, including Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, Tampa General Hospital, the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, Moffitt Cancer Center, and our Med-Peds continuity clinic. These varied training environments expose residents to the full spectrum of health care, from routine primary care to highly specialized tertiary and quaternary referrals, allowing them to care for patients of all ages, backgrounds, and medical complexities. This breadth of experience prepares our graduates to excel in any career path, including primary care, hospital medicine, academic medicine, and subspecialty fellowship training.
Education is at the heart of our program. Beyond our robust clinical curriculum, we foster a strong culture of scholarship driven by resident curiosity and innovation. Residents actively participate in our resident-led Scholarly Activity Group, engage in longitudinal quality improvement and patient safety projects, and benefit from writing workshops, mentorship, and dedicated support for scholarly productivity.
What truly distinguishes our program is our people. Our residents form a close-knit and supportive community that values collaboration, personal growth, and mutual respect. We intentionally create opportunities to connect outside of the clinical environment through resident retreats, wellness initiatives, social gatherings, and our popular Cultural Expedition Dinners, where residents and faculty come together to celebrate and learn from the rich traditions, cuisines, and experiences that make our community unique. These experiences foster an environment where every resident feels welcomed, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Service is a cornerstone of our program. Residents have the opportunity to care for vulnerable populations through our resident-run free clinic in partnership with Catholic Charities. We are equally committed to global health and offer opportunities for international engagement through established partnerships and experiences in Guatemala and Colombia. These experiences allow residents to broaden their understanding of healthcare delivery, public health challenges, and culturally responsive care while serving communities both locally and abroad.
Our Med-Peds residents are enthusiastic, compassionate, intellectually curious, and deeply committed to improving the lives of their patients and communities. Their unique perspective, forged through training in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, makes them invaluable members of healthcare teams and equips them to provide comprehensive, lifelong care.
