About Us
USF Health Department of Pediatrics
Founded in 1972 under the leadership of Lewis A. Barness, MD, the Department of Pediatrics has a long tradition of excellence in patient care, education, research, and community service. A nationally recognized academic pediatrician, Dr. Barness recruited outstanding clinicians and helped establish comprehensive pediatric healthcare services throughout the Tampa Bay region.
Today, the department is home to 19 clinical divisions whose faculty and staff are committed to delivering exceptional care while educating and mentoring the next generation of pediatric healthcare professionals. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in consistently high Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction scores.
Education is central to our mission. We train medical students and learners from a variety of health professions, offering residency programs in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine-Pediatrics, as well as fellowship programs in Allergy and Immunology and Neonatology.
