Elimarys Perez-Colon, MD
Program Director

Dr. Elimarys Perez-Colon was born and raised in Villalba, Puerto Rico. She earned her medical degree from San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in Puerto Rico in 2009 and completed her combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency at the University of South Florida in 2013. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Her primary professional interests include global health, health equity, and improving care for vulnerable populations. She has participated in numerous international health initiatives in Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, as well as community-based programs throughout the Tampa Bay area. Outside of medicine, Dr. Perez-Colon is an avid traveler who enjoys photography.
John D. McCormick, MD, FACP, FAAP

Dr. McCormick joined the USF faculty in 2008 after six years in private practice. In addition to being a medical doctor, Dr. McCormick is a registered pharmacist, having majored in pharmacy as an undergraduate student where he graduated at the top of his class. Subsequently, he completed an internship and residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at USF, including a year as chief resident. Dr. McCormick is a fellow with the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) and with the American College of Physicians (FACP).
Dr. McCormick has received several awards for his teaching and clinical skills. He is currently the Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Training Program at USF, where he is actively engaged in training residents and medical students.
Jameson Kuang, MD

Dr. Kuang completed his BA in Music at Duke University in 2014 and obtained his MD degree from the University of South Florida in 2019, where he stayed to complete his Internal Medicine & Pediatrics residency training, including a year as a chief resident. He joined faculty in 2023 and continues to be active in medical student education and involved in USF student-led free clinic work.
Erika Abel, MD

Dr. Erika Abel completed both medical school and her combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency at the University of South Florida. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and practices as an academic hospitalist at Tampa General Hospital. Dr. Abel served as Program Director of the Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program for 18 years, guiding its growth and development until 2026. She continues to support graduate medical education by advising and mentoring program directors across multiple training programs. Dr. Abel also supervises residents at a local free clinic dedicated to caring for vulnerable and underserved populations.

Ryan Dean, MD

Ryan Dean, MD trained at the University of Minnesota for medical school and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Prisma Health Upstate - University of South Carolina (formerly Greenville Health System) in Greenville, SC. After residency, he worked at Orlando Health in Orlando, FL as a hospitalist for both adults and children. While there, he was an assistant program director for the pediatric residency program at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. He joined the Med-Peds faculty in 2026. His career interests include medical education, quality improvement, POCUS, and medical decision making. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing piano, listening to music, and working out.
Ashley Perry, MD

Dr. Perry completed medical school at the University of South Florida and stayed at USF to complete Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency training, including a year as chief resident, and a one-year fellowship in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. She joined the Med-Peds faculty in 2026. Dr. Perry's career interests include quality improvement, healthcare efficiency, health equity, and medical education. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling and hiking.
