Building Resilient Healthcare Through Nurse Leadership

Offered by the USF College of Nursing, Nurse Leadership in Sustainability is a continuing education course designed to empower nurses, and future nurses, to lead sustainability efforts in their workplaces. Grounded in the shared values of nursing and sustainability—systems thinking, stewardship, and advocacy—this course blends leadership principles with real-world strategies to help nurses champion more resilient healthcare environments. By leveraging established nursing leadership frameworks, participants will gain the tools and confidence to drive impactful, lasting change through sustainable practice.

Modality

This self-paced, online course includes a one-hour executive coaching session with a sustainability expert, providing personalized feedback and support. Using a guided toolkit, learners will complete a self-directed practicum applying the Sustainability Initiative Framework to a real or theoretical opportunity for sustainability improvement within their practice.

USF Health is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

A maximum of 12.00 contact hours may be earned by learners who successfully complete this nursing continuing professional development activity.

 

 

 

Course Overview

  • The nursing profession, specifically:

    • A practicing nurse, seeking skills to improve sustainability in their workplace; or,
    • A pre-licensure nurse, seeking to expand their understanding of environmental sustainability in healthcare. 
  • At the end of this course, learners will be able to:

    • Analyze the interconnections between environmental sustainability, human health, and the nursing profession’s role in addressing sustainability and health equity.
    • Evaluate healthcare practices and systems through a sustainability lens to identify opportunities for reducing environmental impact and promoting health outcomes.
    • Design a real or theoretical sustainability improvement project in your workplace or area of practice using systems thinking and the Sustainability Initiative Framework. 
  • Prerequisites:

    There are no prerequisites for this course.

    Completion Requirements:

    All course components and modules must be completed within one year of enrollment. •Learners are required to complete Modules 1 and 2, including submission of the Pre-coaching Reflection and participation in the first executive coaching session, within the first 90 days of enrollment.

    Fee: $2495.00

    •The course fee includes two executive coaching sessions: Session 1 (20 minutes) and Session 2 (40 minutes).
