Excellence in Nursing

The University of South Florida College of Nursing (CON) and Sarasota Memorial Health Care System are partnering on a new initiative, Excellence in Nursing During COVID-19 and Beyond, to directly address the current burnout and shortage of nurses. The goal is to continuously improve levels of safe, quality patient care by advocating for our nursing workforce’s health, high-quality education, and skilled training.

Excellence in Nursing During COVID-19 and Beyond is divided into two programs:

Programs

Well-Being Coaching

This program is a gift from the College of Nursing and Sarasota Memorial Health Care System to students and local nurses. The program provides a platform to reflect and identify what you need to strengthen your well-being. Certified coaches will provide you with customized support and tools to help you shift to a more positive mindset and healthy behaviors. The goal is for you to flourish and thrive. The program includes approximately 1 hour of self-paced reflection and 1 hour of small group coaching each month. USF nursing students and nurses from Sarasota Memorial Health Care System are invited to participate.

Preceptorship-to-Hire

This program is designed to facilitate USF Health College of Nursing students' transition from college to professional practice. Currently, the program is being offered at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Moffitt Cancer Center and Tampa General Hospital for the Summer 2022 term. The participating students must be committed to working at the hospital or facility after graduation. After successful completion of the program, students may be offered an employment opportunity at one of their locations, either on the unit assigned during the program or elsewhere in the organization. Additionally, the hospital may offer employment to the student during the interim period between graduation and licensure so the student can continue to be mentored and learn the role of a professional nurse.

This program will be offered to all students during their final semester of the pre-licensure program and the application process will occur the prior semester.
