The USF Health Department of Neurosurgery, Brain and Spine offers medical students invaluable hands-on experience in one of the most innovative and rapidly advancing fields of medicine. At USF Health, students collaborate with expert neurosurgeons and researchers in state-of-the-art facilities, exploring the complexities of the brain, spine, and nervous system.

What to Expect

Our program offers a distinctive blend of clinical training, cutting-edge research opportunities, and a strong emphasis on patient-centered care, enabling students to gain a comprehensive understanding of neurosurgery and its impact on patient outcomes. USF Health medical students can participate in 3rd year clerkship called Special Topics. This 2-week elective enables students to explore various aspects of neurosurgery. The focus includes complex cranial surgeries, skull base surgery, cerebrovascular procedures, endovascular techniques, functional neurosurgery, epilepsy treatments, neuro-oncology, radiosurgery, peripheral nerve surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, and spine surgery.

As a fourth-year student, you will have the opportunity to engage with advanced surgical techniques, learn from the world-renowned faculty, and contribute to groundbreaking research that is shaping the future of neurosurgery. The collaborative environment at USF Health empowers students to become leaders in the field, equipping them to address the most challenging neurological conditions with compassion, expertise, and precision.
