Why USF?: 

I chose USF not only because of its stellar reputation throughout the state of Florida, but also because of the sense of family and togetherness that was apparent from day one of the interview process. Having lived in Florida my entire life, I was looking for an academic teaching program close to home where I could learn from some of the best doctors in the field of neurology. Outside of Tampa being an awesome city, the program at USF had everything I was looking for, including opportunities to rotate in a variety of sub-specialties. I have already become so close with my co-residents and others in such a short amount of time. The support and warmth shown towards one another is what I believe separates this program from the rest. Residency is tough no matter what, it is important to be around others who you enjoy being around and want to see you succeed. I have no doubt that matching here at USF was the perfect fit and I am so thankful to be in an environment where I am learning and improving as a physician every day.

Working across multiple hospitals—from tackling complex diseases at TGH to focusing on geriatric medicine at the VA, exploring diverse neuro-oncology at Moffitt, and building a strong foundation in pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital—helps you develop into a confident neurologist, ready to handle any challenge that comes your way.

I picked USF for to be closer to my family, who live in Orlando, as well as the early consistent exposure to neurology as a PGY1!

You truly feel like part of a small family here. The training at USF is well-rounded and thoughtfully designed, providing a solid foundation in neurology while encouraging each resident’s personal and professional development. As an international resident from South Africa, being in Tampa/Florida, holds additional significance for me as I am able to live close to family.  My wife and family here in Florida are invaluable, giving me a strong support system that bolsters my resilience and well-being throughout the demands of residency. Additionally, Tampa is a wonderful city to train in; it’s beautiful and offers a wide variety of activities to enjoy during downtime.
