This page is intended to serve as a resource for finding scholarships that may be available for students in the Morsani College of Medicine graduate programs. Students should refer to the links provided and the awarding entities for the most up-to-date information.
Scholarships Offered through USF
USF Scholarship Database
USF offers a variety of scholarships for graduate students. To view a list of scholarships you may be eligible for, you will need to complete a questionnaire in the USF Award Spring Database. Scholarships can be based on academic merit, extracurricular activities (e.g. Boys Scouts, ROTC, Robotics, etc.), special talents, or demographics.
Some scholarships consider financial need and will require that you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is available now for the 2021-2022 award year.
The deadline for continuing students is typically April 17, but may vary based on the specific award for which you apply.
USF Graduate Studies Scholarships & Fellowships
The USF Office of Graduate Studies offers a handful of scholarships and fellowships to graduate students based on specific criteria.
Unless otherwise noted, the deadline for the awards listed below is February 15. Please visit the Graduate Studies Scholarship Page for application requirements and additional information.
- Ann Winch Fellowship
- The Ann Winch Fellowship was established to encourage and enable mature students in their pursuit of a graduate degree, and to promote scholarship and leadership at the graduate level.
- Chih Foundation Research & Publication Awards (offered in Fall)
- Awards for excellence in science and engineering.
- Dissertation Completion Fellowship (deadline varies by semester)
- Genshaft Family Doctoral Fellowship
- An award for academically talented full-time doctoral students in areas specific to STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medical fields, including Psychology) who demonstrate financial need.

The Office of Graduate & Postdoctoral Affairs offers a variety of scholarships to students enrolled in a Morsani College of Medicine graduate program. The available awards are outlined below.

The McKnight Doctoral Fellowship program is designed to address the under-representation of African American and Hispanic faculty at colleges and universities in the state of Florida by increasing the pool of citizens qualified with Ph.D. degrees to teach at the college and university levels. As a by-product, it is expected that employment opportunities in industry will also be expanded.
Eligibility:
- Incoming PhD students (continuing students are not eligible to apply)
- U.S. Citizen
- African American or Hispanic
- Earned a Bachelor’s
degree

NIH Awards
F31 - Ruth L. Kirschstein Predoctoral Individual National Research Service Award
The purpose of this Kirschstein-NRSA program is to enable promising predoctoral students with potential to develop into a productive, independent research scientists, to obtain mentored research training while conducting dissertation research. The F31 is also used to enhance workforce diversity though a separate program.
Although not technically fellowships, these grants support dissertation research costs of students in accredited research doctoral programs in the United States (including Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories or possessions).
American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship
To enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising students who are matriculated in pre-doctoral or clinical health professional degree training programs and who intend careers as scientists, physician-scientists or other clinician-scientists, or related careers aimed at improving global cardiovascular health.
At the time of application, the applicant must be:
- enrolled in a post-baccalaureate Ph.D., M.D., D.O., D.V.M., Pharm.D., D.D.S., DrPH, or Ph.D. in nursing or equivalent clinical health science doctoral degree program, who seeks research training with a sponsor prior to embarking upon a research career.
- a full-time student working towards his/her degree.
At the time of award activation, the candidate must have completed initial coursework and be at the stage of the program where he/she can devote full-time effort to research or activities related to the development into an independent researcher or a related career aimed at improving global cardiovascular health.
