The Pediatric Emergency Care & Trauma Center department at TGH emergency room takes care of children from birth until their 21st birthday. The department handles roughly 15,000 cases per year ranging from fevers to broken bones and everything in between. We see children in 10 state of the art exam rooms and one trauma bay. As a level I trauma center, specialists, including pediatric surgeons and pediatric neurosurgeons, provide the highest level of trauma care for children. TGH transports critically ill or injured patients from 23 surrounding counties aboard our five-aeromedical helicopters that are equipped with the most advanced life support equipment. Our inpatient pediatric hospital also has burn care, so we see most pediatric burns from within a 1-2 hour radius of Tampa Bay. The pediatric emergency room is staffed with pediatric emergency fellowship trained doctors who also provide teaching opportunities to medical students, emergency medicine residents, pediatric residents and dental residents. We work with specialists in nephrology, oncology, pulmonology and surgery to provide the highest level of care to our pediatric patients.
