The Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at USF treats children and adolescents with cancer. Outpatient care is provided at the Tampa General Hospital Pediatric Day Hospital where we can give intravenous infusions, radiation therapy and supportive care as needed. Inpatient care for those children that require overnight treatment is also provided at Tampa General Hospital. Both the Tampa General Hospital Pediatric Day Hospital and Pediatric Inpatient Floors are fully staffed by experienced nurses trained in cancer and chemotherapy care. By partnering with Tampa General Hospital for pediatric cancer care, we are able to provide a wide range of in house medical services including surgery, neurosurgery, radiation oncology, interventional radiology, radiology, pathology, neurology, gastroenterology, infectious disease specialists, geneticists and psychiatry in order to provide support for the complex care of a child with cancer.
We also understand that each of our patients is a child and part of a family that is growing and maturing and needs additional support. We have a dedicated team of pediatric specialists including: neuropsychology, child care specialists, social workers, rehabilitative medicine, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, integrative medicine, nutritionists and teachers available to ensure the continued growth and development of our patients and to provide family centered care. We have close collaborations with Children’s Cancer Center, One Voice Foundation and Children’s Cancer Research Group that provide support to our patients and our research.
The physicians at USF use the latest evidence based medicine to treat children with the most up to date treatments available. As part of the Children’s Oncology Group, we have a large number of treatment trials available for children with cancer.
