The only one of its kind in Central Florida, the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (Neuro-ICU) at Tampa General Hospital is a 32-bed unit staffed by specially-trained physician faculty from the University of South Florida Departments of Neurology, Critical Care Medicine and Neurological Surgery. The Unit is equipped with advanced neuro-diagnostic apparatus including portable CT scanner, continuous EEG monitor, cerebral blood flow monitor, intracranial pressure monitoring, and minimally-invasive hemodynamic monitoring equipment.

The Neuro-ICU at TGH offers personalized, around-the-clock care to patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, neuromuscular emergencies, status epilepticus, traumatic brain injury, encephalitis and meningitis. Critically ill neurological patients are admitted to the Neuro-ICU where they are closely monitored and cared for by a specialized cadre of neuro-intensive care nurses highly skilled in neurological assessment and monitoring. The unit is well equipped to provide sophisticated diagnostic and treatment techniques including therapeutic hypothermia, ventricular drainage and transcranial Doppler ultrasonography. As a tertiary referral center, the Neuro-ICU delivers the highest quality care to the patients with the most complex and life-threatening neurological diseases.
