Parkinson's Disease & Balance Center - Dr. Zesiewicz

Overview

The USF Parkinson's Disease and Balance Center is located in the Carol Morsani Center for Advanced Health Care at USF, north campus off Fletcher Avenue in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Theresa Zesiewicz, MD FAAN and a team of clinical coordinators and neuroepidemiologist provide specialized care for patients with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders. Emphasis is placed on accurate diagnosis and state of the art therapy for Parkinson's disease. Other parkinsonisms and balance disorders followed at the clinic include atypical parkinsonisms, such as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Multiple System Atrophy. We also work extensively with other movement disorders including Essential Tremor, Ataxia and Dystonia.

The center offers experimental clinical trials and basic research for these diseases. Other treatment options including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, exercise, and nutrition are emphasized. Special attention is paid to the neuropsychiatric needs of movement disorders patients as well. The center also collaborates closely with neurosurgery in treating patients who require deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease and tremor.

A focus of the center is the treatment of tremor, including Essential Tremor (ET). Clinical trials are available for patients suffering from ET. Other movement disorders include imbalance from a variety of etiologies, tics, chorea, dystonia, myoclonus, restless leg syndrome (RLS) and Stiff Person Syndrome.

The USF Ataxia Research Center (USF ARC) and USF Huntington Disease Center are also located at the Carol Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare.
