“I knew I was choosing a large University program with a huge presence and exposure to a wide array of pathology within 3 very clinically important, yet distinct population groups (Tampa General, Moffitt, and Tampa VA). I knew this type of opportunity is one of a kind in medicine and so I capitalized on it. Lastly, the program is located right in the heart of Tampa and boasts plenty of restaurants and extracurricular activities appropriate for individuals and/or family. For me, that was the perfect balance I needed between work and free time that made my decision to join the USF Nephrology family a very easy one. I think I would harp on the exposure to the 3 training sites is the most important thing here. TGH is a top 25 hospital by size, and you get to treat underserved communities with exposure to rare clinical disease. At Moffitt, we get unmatched educational opportunities to learn and get a better understanding of Onco-Nephrology, severe electrolyte derangements, and severe acid/base disorders. The Tampa VA is one of the largest in the US and balances a well-rounded education with a focus on ESRD/CKD and CKD-MBD. Finally, the USF continuity clinic allows us to complete the circle by re-enforcing management of CKD, Hypertension, and even a wide array of Glomerular Diseases guided by our GN experts within the program. USF is a big, large family with great teaching faculty all around. I think the work required may be slightly higher than other programs, but you will certainly get the training required to attain true competence to be a practicing Nephrologist in the community.”
