Tampa General Hospital (TGH)
Tampa General Hospital (TGH) is the largest academic hospital in west central Florida. TGH is a 1000-bed tertiary care medical center serving the Tampa Bay area and the surrounding counties. This institution serves as the primary teaching hospital for the USF Morsani College of Medicine. Approximately 1,200 community and university-affiliated attending physicians and more than 270 resident physicians in the USF College of Medicine residency programs serve the community’s medical needs. Amongst many collaborations, the USF/TGH burn center is one of just five burn centers in Florida to have earned Verification by the American Burn Association/American College of Surgeons and one of only two ABA-verified adult and pediatric burn centers in Florida.
Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare
The Carol and Frank Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare combines world-class health care with a state-of-the-art building designed to facilitate learning in health teams. Completed in 2008, the six-story, 200,000+ square foot patient care medical facility is named for Frank and Carol Morsani for their longtime support of USF. It is located on the northeast corner of West Holly and Magnolia, the primary gateway to the USF Health quadrant of the USF Tampa Campus. The building was part of a Health Care and Education Center project which included a five-year phased plan for the construction of several new facilities that provided a link between the College of Medicine, College of Nursing and the College of Public Health for students and staff involved in these programs.
The facility houses the following major components: Diagnostic imaging (fully digital) MRI, CT, women’s diagnostics with mammography, ultrasound and bone densitometry, fluoroscopy, basic X-ray and nuclear medicine, an Ambulatory surgery/procedure center which includes eight operating rooms and
five endoscopy suites, Outpatient facilities that include 60 clinic exam rooms, Patient support areas and patient administrative services, Clinical and translational research, Patient Outreach and Education Center and a pharmacy conveniently located on the 1st floor. Clinical space includes Brain Health, Neurosurgery, Neurology and Psychiatry, Digestive Disorders, ENT, Sports Medicine and Women’s Health.
USF Health Neuroscience Institute
In 2017, USF Health determined that Neurosciences should become one of its main focal points. The creation of the USF Neuroscience Institute (NSI) brought together the strength, talents, and resources of five academic programs. The NSI would also include centers dedicated to specific brain-related diseases.
The Neuroscience Institute is an ambitious concept designed to accelerate progress in the neurosciences by promoting interdisciplinary collaborations among USF faculty/staff, as well as with partners outside of the university. These varied alliances occur across subject expertise and bridge domains, promoting world-class research while ensuring first-class patient care. Bringing together the strengths, talents, and resources of five academic programs furthers the innovation and discovery around specific brain-related diseases. With multiple Centers within the NSI, physicians and researchers collaborate to better understand the connection between research, treatment and prevention.
USF Health Byrd Alzheimer's Center and Research Institute
The USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Center and Research Institute is dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of Alzheimer’s and related disorders. With highly qualified researchers, scientists, doctors, clinicians and educators, the Institute is at the forefront of Alzheimer's research and care. The institute is a Center of Excellence at USF Health that provides compassionate patient care, performs cutting-edge research and delivers quality caregiver support and public and professional education. The Byrd was the first official Center within the Neuroscience Institute and remains the cornerstone of all activities within the Byrd building.
USF Health Heart Institute
The USF Health Heart Institute is a vibrant environment for research and education. Its cutting-edge research activities evolve along selected complementary paths that include basic science, translational science, clinical research, and technology transfer, all of which are aimed at the practical application of fundamental knowledge gained in the research environment. Through better understanding of the genetic, molecular, and environmental drivers of heart, lung, and vascular disease, the Heart Institute ultimately aims to better predict, diagnose, and prevent disease rather than respond late in its course. Through several Centers of Excellence, the Institute’s researchers and clinicians address unmet medical needs related to heart, lung, and vascular disease, which account for three of the top five causes of death in the US.
The Heart Institute is also committed to helping expand entrepreneurial activity by channeling intellectual property into new commercial enterprises and engaging in community redevelopment with local companies. New affiliations with industry, venture groups, and mentoring partners help move our fundamental and translational discoveries into clinical development for regulatory approval, advancing “bench to bedside” technology transfer.
TGH Cancer Center
The Tampa General Hospital’s Cancer Institute is nationally recognized for its world-class care that is revolutionizing cancer treatment and is one of Florida’s few cancer centers backed by academic medicine. The TGH Cancer Institute is ranked in the top 10% of hospitals in the nation for cancer care by the U.S. News & World Report 2023-2024 and is named one of America’s Best Cancer Hospitals by Newsweek.
As a national and global leader in cancer care, the TGH Cancer Institute is accredited by the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program established by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). With this accreditation, the TGH Cancer Institute is recognized for meeting 34 quality care standards, taking a multidisciplinary approach to delivering high-quality, patient-centered cancer care, and demonstrating a true commitment to improving patient outcomes and the overall quality of life for all cancer patients. Furthermore, TGH serves as a home to world-renowned cancer surgeons who have decades of surgical experience and are active in cutting-edge clinical trials. This gives patients access to state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and therapies that are not available at other cancer hospitals.
