Monica Matos

Associate Vice President, USF Health Communications and Marketing

As Associate Vice President of USF Health Communications and Marketing, Monica oversees integrated efforts to elevate USF Health’s brand and reputation as a leading academic medical center and advance strategic priorities on behalf of its colleges, schools, centers, and faculty practice plan. She leads a talented and high-achieving team of communication and marketing professionals who together support organizational goals in storytelling, social media, creative design, media relations, identity campaign development, brand discovery, and digital marketing.

Monica joined the University of South Florida in 2004 as Director of Marketing Communications for the former Health Sciences Center and was instrumental in the creation and launch of the USF Health brand in September 2005. In 2013, she advanced and served as USF Health Director of Brand Marketing, where she focused on comprehensive marketing and business development strategies for the USF Health physicians’ group. In 2017, she was promoted to Executive Director of Strategic Planning and Operations at University Communications and Marketing on USF main campus, where she worked with senior leadership on integrated long-term planning, led cross functional teams, and focused on efficiencies of effort and project management for the department. 

Monica later returned to USF Health to lead the Communications and Marketing team as Assistant Vice President. She guided the office through the COVID-19 pandemic, when the team was pivotal in crisis communications and made a successful transition to hybrid work while increasing productivity and engagement. 

Prior to USF Health, Monica was marketing and public relations manager at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. She is bilingual with over 25 years of experience in higher education and healthcare marketing and public relations.  She holds a BBA from Southern Methodist University with dual majors in Marketing and Organizational Behavior and Business Policy and a minor in Sociology. She was awarded the USF Outstanding Staff Award in 2022.
