The Division of Burn & Wound Surgery within the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine Department of Plastic Surgery is one of the nation's premier academic burn and reconstructive surgery programs. In partnership with Tampa General Hospital, the division is committed to delivering world-class burn and wound care, advancing innovative reconstructive techniques, and educating the next generation of plastic surgeons and burn specialists. The division's vision is to remind a national and international leader in burn, reconstructive, and wound surgery through excellence in patient care, research, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration. 

Clinical services are centered at the Tampa General Hospital Burn Center, one of the few American Burn Association-verified for both adult and pediatric burn care. The division provides comprehensive care across the full continuum of treatment, including emergency resuscitation, burn critical care, reconstructive surgery, rehabilitation, scar management, and long-term recovery. A multidisciplinary team of surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, therapists, and rehabilitation specialists delivers patient-centered care utilizing a dedicated Burn Intensive Care Unit, specialized burn operating rooms, advanced wound care technologies, and comprehensive rehabilitation services.

The division is also expanding a comprehensive wound care program focused on the management of complex acute and chronic wounds. This initiative includes the development of multidisciplinary wound center integrating expertise from plastic surgery, vascular surgery, infectious disease, endocrinology, rehabilitation medicine, and advanced wound care specialists. Strategic priorities include limb preservation and salvage, advanced wound therapies, regenerative medicine, outpatient wound reconstruction, and innovative care pathways for patients with complex wounds. 

The Division of Burn & Wound Surgery maintains a strong commitment to translation and clinical research aimed at improving outcomes for patients with burn injuries and complex wounds. Current areas of investigation include wound healing, scar management, regenerative medicine, burn reconstruction, outcomes research, and innovative surgical techniques. Faculty, residents, fellows, and medical students are encouraged to actively participate in research initiatives and contribute to scientific advancement through presentations and publications at regional, national, and international meetings. 

Education is a core mission of the division, with a strong emphasis on training future leaders in burn, reconstructive, and wound surgery. The program provides comprehensive clinical education through high-acuity, multidisciplinary patient care experiences at the Tampa General Hospital Burn Center. Residents, fellows, medical students, and allied health professionals receive hands-on training in burn critical care, reconstructive surgery, wound management, microsurgery, and rehabilitation. The division fosters academic excellence through mentorship, research opportunities, multidisciplinary conferences, and participation in national educational and scientific forums, preparing trainees to become leaders in academic surgery and clinical innovation.
